Me Time Survey Results: Pt 1

March 17, 2008 – 10:53 pm

A little while back Mary and I posted a survey to determine how much “Me Time” or personal, alone time people get. It’s been a little while now, we had 34 valid responses, which seems like about all we’re going to get at this point. Here are my initial findings:

So, how much free time do most people get?

Me time, in minutes
  • The majority of respondents said they had between 30 minutes and 2 hours of me time. Of those, the majority had 1-2 hours to themselves.
  • The average amount of time among those that had up to 2 hours is between 28-57 minutes per day which comes out to about 43 minutes on average. Wow. That doesn’t seem like much to me.
  • 18% of those surveyed had more than 2 hours a day.
  • 41% of respondents said they had between 30 minutes and 2 hours per day.

But how satisfied are they with it?

Are you satisfied with the amount of me time you get

It’s clear that most people who took the survey were satisfied with the amount of personal time they got.

My initial reaction

Honestly, I was shocked to see these kinds of results. I figured more people would have less time and would be less satisfied. I suppose I’m not surprised about the average amount of time that folks with under 2 hours get–around 43 minutes. I think that’s pretty cool.

I’m even more interested to find out how satisfied those who are married and married with children are. I expect that as the number of children increases the satisfaction will go down. If there’s anyone who’s good at analyzing data, let me know and I’ll shoot you the spreadsheet.
